The Career Support Specialist (CSS) is responsible for monitoring the front desk and resource room, assisting clients with employment needs, accepting and routing incoming calls from a switchboard system, and taking accurate messages for staff. The CSS must remain aware of all staff whereabouts and center events which could prevent staff from accepting incoming calls. The CSS is expected to provide excellent customer service and perform various clerical duties as requested.

Essential Functions: Assist applicants in developing quality WorkInTexas (WIT) applications for employment by securing and recording information reflecting work qualifications based on experience, training, skills, abilities, interests and other factors relevant to proper selection for referral to suitable job openings.Provide technical assistance to job seekers using the (WIT) system.Refer and guide applicants to suitable employment.Provide general employment counseling to applicants who present placement or job adjustment challenge. Interview clients and use assessment tools to determine education, experience, skills, interest, and other relevant factors to fully explore client’s career development opportunities and possible training needs.Research and disseminate labor market information.Answer and route incoming calls appropriately, ensuring that accurate messages are distributed as needed.Assist with data entry, maintenance and accuracy checks as requested.Maintain Room Reservation Log for the Center. Other Functions: Provide backup coverage for other Career Support Specialists.Monitor the Center customer flow and direct visitors appropriately.

Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements: Must have High School Diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years of administrative/clerical experience.Bilingual (English/Spanish).Must have good computer skills, including experience with MS Office suite Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated customer service skills.

Preferred:

Previous experience with TWIST software system.

Physical Demands: Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment.Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds. Work Environment:

Includes both a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, and local travel, including exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather conditions, and occasional environmental hazards.
