Carelab is an interdisciplinary research and curricular initiative hosted at Parsons School of Design Strategies focused on exploring and catalyzing innovative strategies to build caring communities and organizations . The central question for Carelab is: What if caring about and for people were the central design principle of our social, economic and political relations and structures? Evolving social norms, demographic changes, political polarization and instability, othering, and public health and environmental disasters have shifted how we care for each other in diverse contexts – families, communities, cities and towns, organizations and across cultures. Working with a growing community of practice of designers, artists, and activities, Carelab critically examines the many facets of the global care crisis, harnessing design to imagine and realize new futures and practices to address care disparities and to bridge societal divides.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.

Professor Kahane is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) who will play a core role in the ongoing evolution of Carelab. Tasks will vary throughout the year and will include: Support ongoing strategy development of Carelab Design and implement a symposium for the Carelab community of practice Help to conceive and host a speaker series Support curricular development for Carelab, including secondary research to understand precedents, and build a database of case studies and a bibliography. Co-design of workshops Develop content for a new Carelab website that is being built Plan, organize, and help run a variety of meetings Create outreach and promotional materials for workshops, symposium and speakers series


Hourly Rate: $30.16 per hour
Part-time: 10 hours a week
Work mode: Hybrid

Minimum Qualifications: Strong written and verbal communication skills and project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to conduct independent research. Experience facilitating workshops An interest in curricular innovation and/or community engagement and participatory design. Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with the team and various stakeholders. Experience in online and/or print graphic design. Fluency with the Adobe Suite, Wordpress, Canva and Mural/Miro Preferred Qualifications: Fluency with documentation in different media formats – photography, video etc. Knowledge of social media platforms
