General Statement The person in this position will perform skilled journeyman carpentry work under minimal supervision. Duties include: building, maintaining, renovating, remodeling, and repairing buildings; building, maintaining, and repairing furniture, cabinets and fixtures; installing, maintaining, and repairing doors and hardware; fabricating and or/installing brackets, and/or bracing for mirrors, draperies, and other equipment and fixtures; installing and repairing suspended ceiling systems; operating and maintaining a variety of power tools normally associated with the woodworking industry; performing strenuous physical labor; working from scaffolds and ladders, and on floors; performing related work as required, or as specified by collective bargaining agreement. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain, renovate, and make general carpentry repairs to buildings. Install, maintain, and repair: floors, doors, railings, partitions, signs, roofs, windows, stairways, insulation, siding, and concrete form work. Install and repair window coverings, floor coverings, acoustical ceilings and walls. Install and repair door systems including closures, safety glass, strikes, and hinges. Construct cabinets, counters, and other related items. Install counter tops and partitions. Repair and maintain classrooms and office fixtures including fixed seating, chairs, tables, benches, dry erase boards, and bulletin boards. Preparation work for wood refinishing. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills High school graduation or equivalent, plus four years journeyman-level carpentry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of standard construction practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment of carpentry trade. Demonstrated competence performing materials take-off and establishing proper work flow to complete a project. Demonstrated competence reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints, plans, sketches and specifications. Demonstrated competence using a variety of hand tools, power hand tools, power stationary tools, and equipment of the carpentry trade. Demonstrated competence working on windows, doors, window and door hardware, and stairs. Demonstrated competence working with various fasteners and anchoring systems. Demonstrated competence working with foundations and concrete, including concrete repair procedures and finishes. Demonstrated competence building and repairing structural systems. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) journeyman-level cabinet making or maintenance experience. Experience balancing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability to changing priorities. Experience interfacing with a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Experience in welding. The Successful Candidate Will Consistently exercise initiative and good judgment. Effectively and safely operate work-related equipment and tools. Accurately follow written and oral instructions and procedures. Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, and the campus community. Journeyman Carpenter II – $31.21In addition to meeting the position requirements of the Carpenter I, Carpenter II candidates have demonstrated advanced knowledge and skills in work elements such as solid surfaces, flooring, concrete, cabinetry, ceiling systems, historic restoration, renovation/remodeling, welding, furnishings and seating systems coupled with the capability and willingness to train/share these advanced skills.
Journeyman Carpenter III – $33.08In addition to meeting the position requirements of the Carpenter I and Carpenter II, Carpenter III candidates can oversee programs, custom projects, and multi-task projects from start to finish with minimal supervision including take-offs, procurement, scheduling/sequencing, quality control, and in process work problem solving.
