Carpenter, Maintenance (PMO)

The Carpenter, Maintenance performs the carpentry duties necessary to maintain in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors. Work involves most of the following: planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work. In general, the work of the maintenance carpenter requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities

Studies specifications and measures, marks and cuts boards using patterns templates, ruler, and pencil and hand and power saws.

Fastens or installs parts using hammer, nailing machine or power stapler.

Repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts, and/or fabricate containers from wood and fiberboard including pallets, Dunn age and restraints.

Inserts wood bracing’s, cardboard files and felt pads in containers.

Builds crates around objects using ruler, hand tools and pneumatic nailer, and ensures items are properly preserved, packaged and do not require further protection before shipping.

Fabricates, repairs, modifies and replaces woodwork on vehicle sides and beds.

Preserves items, as required, prior to packing.

Packs, seals, bands and applies markings to crates and containers.

When required, package items in constructed boxes, crates, pallets, etc.

Inspects commercial furnished railcars for serviceability and complement of equipment necessary for loading.

Assists and directs the tie down of Military Vehicles/equipment and MILVANS loaded onto railcars. Assures all is tied down, blocked and/or braced IAW Military and Transporting railroad specifications.

Inspect Blocking and Bracing, issuing Bolt / Wire Wrap seals and assist in the installation of CIDD (Container Intrusion Detection Device) on all Containers deploying overseas.

Prepares cargo for shipment, obtains GBL/CBL from outbound freight and loads freight on commercial conveyances.

Performs other duties as assigned in a warehouse and/or outdoor environment in all types of weather.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent.

Must have a working knowledge of various power saws and basic woodworking principles.

Two-year woodworking experience and knowledge of packaging and preservation principles and techniques preferred.

Must possess or be able to obtain a forklift license.

Must have HAZMAT processing working knowledge and must be capable to obtain Company/Government provided HAZMAT certification.Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver’s License prior to starting or by 30 days after employment.

Must be US Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) to obtain a CAC. Clearance.

Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results

Material and Equipment Directly Used:

PC and other office equipment, woodworking tools (saws, staples), forklift

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

Extensive interaction with the customer is required. Work requires long, strenuous hours and being able to work under pressure.

May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work is generally conducted in a warehouse environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the out-of-doors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.

Work will require lifting up to 50 lbs; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting.

Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required is certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.

Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.
