POSITION DESCRIPTION


Title: Carpenter 
Reports To: Project Foreman


POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing carpentry skills on construction projects for Scott Bridge Company, Inc. Incumbents are responsible for constructing, erecting, installing and repairing wood structures, concrete forms per sketches, blueprints, or oral instructions. Typically, they will work closely with a Project Superintendent, Project Foreman, Laborers, Helpers and other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES
• Works as assigned by the Project Superintendent or Foreman to ensure the successful completion of on-going or new construction projects.
• Secures and maintains basic tools to perform carpentry duties including hammers (framing and trimming), nail bag, tape measure, utility knives, chisels, level, farming square, screw driver assortment, nail set, etc.
• Returns carpentry tools to Scott Bridge Company tool box or secured location on jobsite once project is complete.
• Interprets plans and specifications to build, construct or repair wooden structures or concrete forms.
• Receives building and construction materials and off loads these materials in a safe and proficient fashion.
• Performs wood framing and metal stud framing as dictated by the project.
• Frames other miscellaneous wood structures.
• Strips concrete forms and removes nails from previously used lumber.
• Inspects and makes minor repairs to wooden structures as required.
• Picks up needed material and supplies to complete project.
• Works closely with the Project Foreman, Crane Operators, Helpers, and other skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and efficient manner.
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
• Keeps work area safe and clean of debris that could cause workplace hazards.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Carpentry experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary carpentry skills, knowledge and abilities is required. The incumbent must also be able to communicate well and have good knowledge of:
1. Practices and materials of the carpentry trade.
2. Operation of various types of equipment.
3. Importance of safe work practices in a construction environment.
4. Be capable of demonstrating proficiency in the Carpentry Craft to perform the job.


PHYISCAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done,
In addition, Carpenters must also be capable of:
• Standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for extended periods of time.
• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance work.
• Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 30’.
• Working in confined spaces.
• Working at elevated heights.
• Lifting 75 lb. objects as required.
• Carrying 50 lb objects as required.
• Adapting to extreme temperature changes.
• Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposures.
• Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstances of the incident.
