Summary The Primary Duties of this Position: Incumbent responsible for a variety of carpentry construction duties such as alters and installs of walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, door and windows in all buildings on the VANTHCS specific location. The Organizational Location of the Position is: Projects Section within the Facilities Management Service formally known as the Engineering Service, VA North Texas. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES: The incumbent is responsible for a variety of carpentry construction duties such as alterations and installations of walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, door and windows in all buildings on the V ANTHCS sites. He/she constructs new drywall partitions and other temporary structures of wood construction. He/she installs windows and doors, mortising doors adjusting as necessary to assure proper fitting. He/she cuts and installs trim material around new work and cased openings such as baseboard, ceiling mold, chair-rails and picture molding. He/she installs acoustical ceilings and floor coverings of all types including carpet. He/she builds forms for concrete walks, road curbing and steps. He/she works with formica, laminate coverings and paneling. He/she makes new furniture such as tables, cabinets and work benches. He/she constructs and installs bulletin boards, black boards, cabinets and shelving among other carpentry duties as needed. The incumbent must have knowledge of standard practices, codes, procedures, safety regulations related to the trade as well as applying those in a hospital environment. He/she works with many high-speed machines and saws that require an complete adherence to safety regulations. Incumbent's work should be in close tolerances; therefore, great attention to work in process is required to minimize material and equipment abuse or misuse. Operates and maintains shop power equipment such as a joiner, table saw, bench saw and shaper, surface lathe, drill press, grinder, belt sander and router. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD04542ARelocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Physical Requirements: Extended standing, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, balancing and walking. Continuous muscular effort is required while performing these duties and due to the nature of the work, considerable exertion and fatigue is experienced. Incumbent works from platforms, ladders and ground level. He/she often lifts and carries items weighing more than 50 pounds.
