Join the Facilities Services team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.

Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Purpose

Perform and document journey-level carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, or alteration of buildings.

ResponsibilitiesRepairs and installs emergency exit hardware, ceiling tile, walls (sheet rock, masonry, etc.), doors, automated doors, and signage using hand and power tools such as circular saw, drill, hand tools, router, table saw, sander, grinder, nail guns, and other equipment. Also, uses meters and specialty tools. Generates material lists and organizes required materials for efficient work. Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Performs preventive maintenance on doors and associated hardware as well as other assigned systems.Assists other team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators.   Participates in the maintenance and operations of the shop. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used to perform duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Works independently and as a team member. Assists other team members as necessary with training in work techniques to accomplish team goals in a safe and timely manner.  Inspects the work of others for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Participates in the On-Call program.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level carpenter.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in technical field. Completion of vocational, trade, or apprentice program in one or more journeyman trades. Five years experience. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Experience in more than one craft or trade. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Salary Range

$47,840 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions:This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.May be required to use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes.
