The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a driven and experienced Carpenter. In this role, you will supervise and perform a wide range of carpentry activities, ensuring the design, inspection, repair, installation, maintenance, alteration, and removal of various structures, building components, and furnishings. As the head carpenter, you will collaborate with hospital staff and contractors to ensure the safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance of all facilities within the hospital property.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Directly supervise and lead continued maintenance and management efforts of the Hospital.Contribute to proactive maintenance and planning efforts in collaboration with Facility leadership.Plan, design, install, modify, repair, and remove carpentry-related structures, components, and furnishings.Prioritize work orders and respond to hospital utility and Facility requests.Determine, price, order, store, inventory, distribute, and document the use of materials.Operate, maintain, secure, and supervise hospital equipment.Collaborate with employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, and hospital administration.Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.Maintain knowledge of and train staff on hospital policies, procedures, and directives related to building maintenance and work order process.Provide updates and expertise at assigned meetings, training sessions, and events.Required Qualifications:
Interprets all codes, regulations, and standards for planning, designing, installing, modifying, repairing, and removing carpentry-related structures, components, and furnishings.Executes all physical tasks associated with the outlined duties.Reads and understands blueprints, drawings, and sketches.Follows and issues both written and verbal instructions effectively.Preferred Qualifications:
Understands hospital-related codes, regulations, policies, procedures, and directives.Familiar with hospital systems and components.Comprehends hospital-related contracts and agreements.About the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:
Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.
The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.
