Carpenter / Maintenance Repair Technician II - IAH Airport (FAC)

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements.Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed.Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements.Build window frames, doors, staricases and frame buildings by using raw materilas or pre-constructed items.Lay out floorings, roofings or drywalls ensuring they are leveled and compatible.Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves, and other items and install them where designated.Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenanceBuild scaffolding and other construction structuresPerform other duties as assigned or needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED equivalentValid Driver’s LicenseAt least 2 years proven experience as carpenterHands-on experience in working with carpentry materialsExcellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and constructionProficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers, etc.)Ability to read technical documents and drawingsWillingness to follow all safety guidelines at all timesGood understanding of basic mathSuccessful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program is requiredFamiliarity with Airport operations a plusComputer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelAbility to be badged to work in secure areas of an airportAbility to work 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts including weekends and holidays

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of a Carpenter, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds. Ability to work in outside weather conditions on an airport ramp around aircrafts and the confined areas of baggage conveyor systems. Specific vision abilities required by this job include good close proximity vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Good hand / eye coordination is required. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is similar to airport operation with vehicular traffic. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employees will work on an airport ramp around aircrafts and around heavy equipment.
