Job Description

Your Team

The Carpenter & Quality Control Technician, is a front-line role that is responsible and accountable for auditing the compliance of buildings under construction for conformance with plans, specifications, building code, system function, and completion of any job specific details. The Carpenter & Quality Control Technician is also responsible for general carpentry duties, identifying, communicating, coordinating and executing the final detailing and any necessary repairs to all cosmetic surfaces, fixtures, while assisting the site construction team in constructing housing units to Brookfield’s high standard of quality and workmanship.

Your Key Deliverables

Perform pre-backfill, framing and mechanical complete  

Quality check · Use levels, rulers, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment while performing Quality Control duties  

Liaise with municipal officials as required regarding items of code compliance  

Liaise with framing, forming and erecting contractors to educate in Brookfield “best practices” and quality requirements and techniques  

Train and mentor junior staff in “Brookfield Best Practices” and construction techniques  

Provide formal documentation of quality control checks to managers and responsible trades 

Follow up on identified deficiencies until rectified · Review and audit homes under construction on a daily basis 

Work from blueprints or follow instructions from managers  

General layout, grades, walls, floors, roof  

Determine height, width, length, and other proportions  

Select materials and equipment for the task at hand 

Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall 

Utilize common hand and power tools for general carpentry work, including repairs 

Work from heights following OH&S Act, Regulation and Code  

Work with various construction methods and housing products 

Install partitions, doors, and windows 

Move materials and equipment · Support other aspects of Brookfield construction operations as required 

Audit various installed finished materials, building life systems, installations, fixtures and appliance for fit, finish and function  

Perform light touch-ups as required to surfaces such as drywall, painting, finishing carpentry, flooring, cabinets, electrical, plumbing and fiberglass glass tubs, etc. 

Maintain a clean work site and participate in site maintenance and cleaning activities 

 

Safety: 

Participate in Brookfield Safety Program  

Assist in training of junior staff on tool use and Safe work Practices 

Assist in training of Framing & Erecting Contractors in Brookfield Site Safety Requirements  

Ensure safety rails on stairwells 

Ensure proper access into homes. 

May require install wood walkways  

Provide required safety inspections 
 

Must Haves 

A minimum of two years of general carpentry experience, or an active participant in carpentry apprenticeship, a journeyman carpenter or equivalent  

Detail oriented, strong organizational and computer skills  

Effective communication skills; ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders  

Safety Training Certificates (e.g. Basics of Supervision, First Aid and CPR, Fall Arrest, Natural Gas, Propane, WHIMIS, OSHA). 

Ability to read and interpret blueprints  

Valid Driver’s License and vehicle required; must be able to travel to job sites located outside of public transit routes. 

 

Physical Requirements 

The position will include the following physical requirements: 

Walk uneven terrain 

Climb stairs 

Lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds 

Ability to hear for safety reasons- hearing aids are acceptable 

Vision- 20/20 and is acceptable if they are wearing glasses or contacts 

Crawl- maneuver through difficult areas 

Kneel down 

Climb up and down a ladder
