Carpentry and Mobile Workshop Instructor

JOB SUMMARY   

Teaching the Autism Community Trades (TACT), a nonprofit organization and a member of the  Fedcap Group encourages and empowers individuals with autism through education and employment in the skilled trades. TACT is seeking a full-time Carpentry and Mobile Workshop Instructor to join the team in Englewood, CO. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities

Teaches assigned classes in the specified domain area of expertise both onsite and at partner locations (mobile programming). Exhibits mastery and enthusiasm for the assigned area of expertise and classes. Plans and implements an appropriately focused and balanced curriculum for each student, which adheres to the school's curriculum and standards. Prepares and develops activities, materials, and lessons to meet the learning objectives (skills and content) of the curriculum and standards. Develops and maintains a well-managed classroom where 100% of the students are engaged, consistently challenged, and supported. Classroom policies should be consistent with school policies. Integrates technology into daily classroom teaching and student learning. Decorate classrooms appropriately and keeps it clean, neat, and presentable. Engages families in their children's education and communicates regularly and effectively with students and families. Effectively utilizes best practices in teaching those with autism and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. Assists in the ongoing development of TACT’s curriculum and core performance standards. Submits an annual Unit Pacing Plan to the Educational and Workshop Director. Provides monthly Units of Study for review by the Educational Director Workshop Director. Uses assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practices to help meet the school's performance standards and expectations. Informs colleagues and the executive team of any academic, behavioral, or personal difficulties that arise with students. Reinforces the school’s core values and policies inside and outside of the classroom. Fulfills assignments monitoring duties. Participates in professional development sessions. Devotes the necessary time and energy required to master the craft of teaching. Demonstrates initiative and provides evidence of professional development towards becoming the best teacher one can be. Is open to and enthusiastically involved in innovative approaches to teaching, feedback from colleagues, and the executive team. Participates actively in the school’s faculty, team, and department meetings. Is able and willing to arrive at the school by 8:30 AM for the morning planning and stay until daily responsibilities are fulfilled. Has proven ability to be punctual to all professional obligations. Conducts oneself and dresses in a professional manner. Completes all other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the executive team to help the school achieve its goals. Manages budgeted dollars allocated to classroom expenditures.

QUALIFICATIONS    

Job qualifications are stated in the Essential Functions of the job description. An employee must be able to accomplish the Essential Functions to be competent in the job. Other special requirements are noted below.

Required Education and Job Experience

2+ years of experience in the field of carpentry. Experience with individualized and differentiated instruction and those with autism or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Excellent organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with the use of personal computers and educational technology. Ability to demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of school. Ability and willingness to model the school’s Core Values with colleagues, students, parents, and the larger community. Reinforces the school’s Core values, guiding philosophy, rules, and school spirit consistently throughout the school environment and supports and holds accountable colleagues in doing the same. Ability to pass State and Federal criminal background checks along with a credit check.

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. This person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside an office to access files, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery. Must be able to drive and provide a driver's record for the past 7 years.
