Job Summary

The Director of Student Support Services will report to the Associate Dean.  Responsible for overall development and implementation of strategies to increase undergraduate enrollment and retention in the bachelor's programs for CASE. Direct and oversee the daily functions of student support services including supervision of student support staff and day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities*

Planning and implementation

Work with the CASE Associate Dean to develop undergraduate recruitment strategies for high school and  community college studentsInitiate and participate in the development of marketing materials, and student recruitment plans in collaboration with communications specialistImplement the strategy in collaboration with department chairs, program managers, and related staffCommunicate with related university offices as needed

Student admissions, advising, retention, and career planning

Assess current processes and implement system solutions to facilitate student support servicesCarry out student retention analysesDevelop strategies and implement plans to improve student retention and graduation rates in coordination with other academic advisors, staff and faculty members, and keep progress recordsAcademic advising, develop and implement effective advising strategiesOversee academic advising and monitoring, as well as auditing bachelor's studentsParticipate in development strategies and implement plans to improve career outcomes of bachelor's students with career services manager and keep progress recordsDevelop strategies and implement plans to improve alumni engagement of graduates of the college's programs and keep progress records in collaboration with related staff and facultyCommunicate with related university offices as needed

Staff Supervision

Supervise all CASE student support services staff; to include academic advisors, staff program managers, career manager, events & engagement coordinatorManage CASE student support services operations and staff activitiesRegularly evaluate and mentor staff membersDevelop and manage  staff professional development plansFacilitate opportunities for professional development and training for staffRegularly assess staffing needs and make recommendation to the Associate DeanRecruitment and hiring of new staff members as neededCommunicate with related university offices as neededRequired Qualifications*Must be a current employee of the University of Michigan-Flint. Master's degree in higher education or related field7 or more years of relevant professional experience in student services (e.g.; academic advising, program management)Experience with strategic planning and implementationExperience leading a teamDemonstrated success in student support services with comprehensive knowledge of student retention and academic advisingDesired Qualifications*Knowledge of university systems such as Target X, Degree Works, Business ObjectsKnowledge of University policy and proceduresDemonstrated understanding of CASE majorsModes of Work

Hybrid: 

 

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.  Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
