Position Summary
The caseworker has responsibility for all social services provided through The Salvation Army Santa Monica Corps and is considered an essential ministry position of The Salvation Army Santa Monica.
Essential Functions
Develop portfolio of cases of vulnerable senior citizens requiring higher level of care and access to services (at The Salvation Army Silvercrest Senior Residence) and coordinate onsite community resource visits. Provide oversight of the food pantry program in conjunction with staff and in accordance with USDA, Food Bank, and Salvation Army guidelines. Oversee operations of daily food pantry for housed and unhoused individuals with support from volunteers. Interview clients applying for emergency assistance. Determines eligibility and provides service or referrals as appropriate. Act as liaison with community public/private agencies to benefit of client services, community participation, networking and collaboration. Attend Faith-Based Organization (FBO) and Community Agency Meetings Build and maintain current resource lists for client referrals and agency networking. Coordinate and Schedule outreach opportunities with public and private agencies to provide holistic care to clients. Coordinate and Schedule daytime and evening peer support, case management, volunteer support and other potential onsite resource and opportunities for unhoused clients. Provide case management and referrals for cases requiring a higher level of care. Oversee management database (Bridges & Others/Wellsky) to track client services, case management and outreach activities. Track and submit required Social Services statistics in Wellsky and Outreach logs. Assist with seasonal assistance programs to low income families in need including Summer Camp, Back to School efforts and Christmas Toys/Meals. Provide excellent customer service to clientele in person and over the phone and in person. Perform multiple tasks as assigned.PAY RATE: $24.00-$26.00/hr
Working Conditions
This position is an office position however also involves packing food bags and sorting food and other items. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes in a continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift 30 lbs.
This position requires employee to be vaccinated from Covid-19 or have a religious or medical approved exemption.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and/or demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of responsibilities. Preferred Degree in Human Services, Drug and Alcohol Counseling, Social Work or related field Minimum one (3) years’ experience in a human service position or a combination of education and experience. Ability to work effectively with marginalized and vulnerable people groups; engage clientele in a nondiscriminatory manner, including program participants who may display a wide range of behaviors. Willingness to work in an alcohol and drug free environment and to take alcohol and drug tests when requested. Ability to lift to 30 pounds.Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Must have experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or those in need and understand basic case management principles. Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communication. Have intermediate computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook effectively and efficiently Must be compassionate, resilient, and be willing to ensure compliance with program policies and rules. Experience working with those struggling with addiction, mental health and dual diagnosis preferred.
