The University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine's Department of General Medicine is seeking a Case Worker/HIV Counselor to provide health education and counseling services among people living with HIV in Miami’s historically Black communities. The CW will work under the guidance of the Case Worker Supervisor and Program Manager to identify the health issues of most significant concern and provide participants with risk reduction education, care coordination, and access to outside resources. Responsibilities may include provision of health education and supportive counseling tailored to the client; data collection and preparation of documents for data entry and tracking; housing, income, and food procurement; medical and other benefits enrollment; access to medication assistance, mental health counseling, and substance abuse treatment; outside specialty care, laboratory, pharmaceutical services; and other services to enable health maintenance. CWs are also responsible for maintaining effective lines of communication with participants and the research team to ensure adherence to the program goals and objectives are met.

This is a full-time position. Flexible hours, including some weekends, are required to fulfill the program’s outreach needs. Local traveling is involved. Candidates should be comfortable working within the described population. Candidates should also have experience working with the community of interest; strong verbal communication, interviewing, and writing skills; computer skills related to data collection; and excellent time management and organizational skills.

Conducts situational analysis, which may be at home and/or office visits, mentors, and provides technical assistance as needed.Collaborates with the service agencies and program leadership to provide and administer services appropriately.Develops and provides training to family support networks and/or care providers on various topics related to quality early care and education. Maintains and reviews records and files to ensure compliance with project guidelines.Collaborates with all funding sources to ensure the availability of adequate resources.Maintains current knowledge of services available and changes applicable rules and regulations.Attends meetings and training, which may include the Early Learning Coalition, United Way, and the Quality Counts Career Center to enhance developmental potential.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in relevant fieldMinimum 3 year of relevant experienceKnowledge of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of Black and minority populations in Miami-Dade County.Bilingual (English and Spanish or Haitian Creole) highly preferred
