Purpose

Provide for the receipt, disbursement, and recording of cash payments in food service operations within Housing and Dining (UHD). Assist in restocking and set up of operation. Provide exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

Greet and interact with internal and external customers in a professional and enthusiastic manner while providing excellent customer service. Accurately enter transactions in Micros (a point-of-sale system), process customer transactions including cash, credit cards, and meal plans. Accurately identify food items, portion sizes, and meal combination packages as needed. 

Assist in restocking shelves, coolers, and cashier supplies. Ensure all HAACP logs are completed as required. Ensure front of the house is clean and all areas are fully stocked including coffee, grab-and-go coolers, condiments, and napkins.

Assist in providing training and guidance to temporary and student staff as assigned by the supervisor and/or leader. Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, supervisory staff, and/or customers. Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibility.

Clean and close dining area; including cleaning tables, emptying trash, and cleaning any equipment as required.

Adhere to UHD cash handling guidelines. Complete paperwork related to cashier operation, including transfer of funds reports, closing reports, cash reconciliation sheets, and deposit envelopes. 

Adhere to written and oral University and UHD policies such as time and attendance and UHD / UT trainings and compliance. Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety. Follow work safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE as needed. Other duties as assigned.  

Required Qualifications

One year of experience as a cashier in a large-scale operation.

Customer service experience and ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.

Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining cash handling training.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

High school graduation or GED.

Two or more years of experience as a cashier in a large-scale operation.

Experience as a cashier in a dining or retail establishment.

Experience using a point-of-sale system (POS).

High volume cashiering experience.

Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision. 

Salary Range

$37,440+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).

May work in extreme temperatures.

May work around chemical fumes.

Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.

Use of manual dexterity.

Lifting and moving up to 35 pounds.

Pushing, pulling and moving up to 50 pounds.

Must successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.

Workdays, hours, and area may vary based upon the needs of the unit and University Housing and Dining (UHD).
