Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cat Scan Technologist/IV Cert.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing medically prescribed radiographic and CT procedures.  

Job Responsibilities:

Utilizes computerized tomography CT scanners to produce cross section images of patients internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issuesAccurately interpret a physicians scanning instructionsAdminister contrast materialsPrepare and operate the CT scan equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate imagesPerforms filming of optimum quality and archives the dataUses efficient methods and completes examinations assigned in reasonable amount of timePerforms transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic displayGenerates high quality hard copies of images when necessaryMaintains cleanliness of radiographic areaPrepares equipment and supplies in advance for future examsMakes alterations in work schedule for STAT and emergency cases Is able to alter work patterns to satisfy the needs of the patient and medical staff Is able to recognize a medical emergency and notifies nurse PA and/or MD immediately Demonstrates knowledge of proper radiation safety procedures and incorporates them into the performance of all radiographic proceduresUses gonadal shielding on all patients whenever possibleRestricts beam to the smallest possible area ensuring the least possible exposure to the patient without compromising qualityEliminates the possibility of accidental exposures to x ray by all personsMaintains radiation detection badges and rings appropriately and returns them as requiredAssist in the technical orientation of cross trained technologist and instructs them in complex or difficult proceduresDemonstrates knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiologyCorrectly chooses appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPPA regulationsDemonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times type of exam and patient reportsIs knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient trackingFollows departmental policy of documenting begin complete and departure times when appropriate in the RIS Has working knowledge of film library functionsDemonstrates knowledge of the HIS and is able to access patient data for verification of orders Competent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and/or demonstrates the ability to modify exams when necessaryDemonstrates skill in setup and administration of IV contrast mediaExplains CT or IR procedure and process of administration of contrast to patient and engages radiologist and/or LIP as appropriate per policyMakes sure contrast media questionnaire has been filled out by patientAssesses any existing intravenous line or selects appropriate venipuncture site and attaches injector tubing to patients intravenous lineLoads and programs contrast media power injector according to established departmental procedures and assigns appropriate injection rates based on access and protocolEnsures that all emergency equipment is readily available Injects intravenous contrast using the power injector and monitors patient for signs of contrast media reaction and/or evidence of extravasationNotifies radiologist or LIP in case of reaction or extravasationIndependently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standardsExplains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearlyProvides for patient comfort before during and after procedure and maintains an ongoing rapport with the patient throughout the procedure to ease any anxiety the patient may haveProvides for patient privacy at all timesPositions patient and radiographic equipment appropriate to the body part s to be radiographed and adjust equipment settings accordingly to insure maximum information is obtainedScouts the patient and is able to determine what images of a cross sectional nature are to be takenDemonstrates knowledge of cross sectional anatomy to include solid understanding of slices and the relationship between the images produced by these slices and the parts of the body Is able to determine based on knowledge of cross sectional anatomy when he/she has taken enough slices to complete the procedureIs able to recognize pathology or abnormalities in images produced from the CT scan i e tumors masses and lesions in their cross sectional aspectsImages this area above and below the mass; measures the abnormality as determined by protocolSolves problems that arise during patient examinations using both technical knowledge and innovationAlters examination to maximize information in response to patients conditionConfers with other technologists concerning previous approaches utilizedAssists physicians as needed during the course of radiographic CT procedures as neededDetermines how to display and re format data as neededEffectively assesses patients information and status and follows appropriate procedure s accordinglyUses standard procedures to identify the correct patientChecks patients wristband by name unit and room number to ensure patients ID matches examination requisition OR Calls patient by last name asking patient to confirm their identity by stating their first name Introduces self to the patient Reviews patients requisition and understands the type of exam required by each requisition and confers with medical staff regarding clarification when necessarySeeks information or asks for assistance from supervisor regarding difficult or questionable resultsFollows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine type of protocol required for radiographic examinationConsults policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocols Follows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitionRecognizes need for and follows isolation precautionsDemonstrates skill in equipment set up utilization and proper maintenance procedurePerforms visual and manual quality control checks of CT/IR equipment including monitors used for routine dictation/reading of clinical imagesDemonstrates effective computer skills in his/her ability to use the CT scanner Is familiar with the separate programs and variables for each machine in order to operate it properlyUtilizes CT computer skills and techniques to correct software errors that may cause computer malfunctionsPerforms various test procedures to evaluate operation of CT equipment such as: phantom images air calibrations etcUses imaging and peripheral equipment in a safe and productive manner in accordance with prescribed hospital departmental and manufacturers proceduresObserves and reports any malfunctioning of the equipment and notifies appropriate persons in case of missing or damaged equipmentPerforms other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GEDCertificate from accredited School of Radiologic TechnologyNew York State licenseRegistered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRTBasic Life Support Certification BLSwith IV Contrast Certification within 3 months of employmentAdvance Certification in Computerized Tomography


Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum Two years experience in CT

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $105,733.59 - $120,000 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
