Position Purpose:
Responsible for patient food service on assigned units, e.g., menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery and pick up, special requests and needs, in-between meal food delivery, answering the phone for patient wants/needs, and processing of soiled equipment and utensils through the dish machine or by manual washing.
What you will Do:
Assembles and delivers meal trays to patient care units, including late trays, room service meal trays, and nourishments for general and therapeutic diets.
Washes and sanitizes soiled pans, dishes, utensils, and other equipment.
Sets up and maintains food serving areas according to department guidelines. Notifies appropriate staff of any shortage in food to avoid interruption in service.
Prepares and serves all food items according to therapeutic diets, standardized recipes, menus and service guidelines including quality and appearance.
Follows HACCP techniques and other food safety guidelines in preparation, storage, handling, and holding of all food items including leftovers.
Covers, dates, and labels all food items in storage. Rotates food products and other items on a “first-in, first-out” basis.

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent certificate preferred.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, families and associates of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Computer Skills: Possesses necessary skills to effectively operate hospital’s admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) system and other computer-based systems, which manage patient-care records.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status.
