About you and this roleDow has an exciting job opening for a Cavern Engineer/Improvement Engineer specializing in Cavern Operation and Maintenance. This role is supporting Grand Bayou Operations in Napoleonville, LA.
This Cavern Engineer/Improvement Engineer shall serve as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical and leadership skills to ensure that mining and storage caverns are operated and maintained in in accordance with Dow's Most Effective Technology and by leading the prioritization and implementation of improvement projects critical for safe and reliable plant operations. This position requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge related job disciplines to solve complex problems. This position also requires daily collaboration and coordination within plant resources, 3rd party contractors, and the Mining Storage and Pipeline Global Technology Center.
ResponsibilitiesLead engineer and project/cost manager of cavern maintenance and repair workovers & Mechanical Integrity Testing activities (MITs).
Evaluate cased and open hole logs with respect to mechanical integrity, cavern spacing, and other common considerations.
Participate in design and construction of new salt cavern wells.
Lead engineering studies related to integrity, development, performance, feasibility of salt caverns.
Understand why specific procedure steps and precautions are needed and keep a strong field presence to reinforce the importance.
Work closely with the operations team leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
Lead the continuous improvement work process to develop and implement Plant Specific Technology Plans in alignment with the Global Technology Plan including data collection, gap analysis, idea generation, prioritization, improvement project implementation, and review of results.
Elevate and appropriately apply knowledge of the plant and technology referencing historical data and conferring with Technology Center or other subject matter experts (SMEs).
Ensure Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized, and that process automation is used as a tool to optimize plant performance.
Utilize defined MET and challenge/escalate MET application and assumptions when better solutions arise.
Partner with experts to perform advanced troubleshooting and improve and document operating discipline.
Conduct daily review of logbook and alarm history to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities.
Respond urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
Act as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drive implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
Ensure compliance with plant operating permits.
Required QualificationsA minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
5+ years of engineering, manufacturing or related experience.
Valid US Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications2+ Years of Cavern (related) Engineering experience with solution mined salt caverns or hydrocarbons storage caverns.
Petroleum engineering degree.
