Description of Job About the Work Unit This work unit exists to fulfill the statutory responsibility to provide full-service major criminal investigations, technical and investigative assistance to local and state agencies upon request and has jurisdiction pertaining to Colorado’s Organized Crime Control Act, fugitive apprehension and firearms crimes through cooperation with local, state and federal agencies. The work unit also exists to fulfill statutory requirements to provide an effective level of criminal enforcement in Colorado. In addition, to provide leadership, management, and supervision to the professional staff, Agents, and Agents In Charge of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Investigation Section. About the Job This Assistant Director position serves as the second tier executive, managerial, and administrative position to the Deputy Director and Director of the CBI. The Assistant Director, whose qualification shall be the same as those of an Agent, shall serve as an Agent and shall be POST certified. 408 Agents – Qualifications & 409 Agents – Duties – Powers. At the request of the Deputy Director or in his/her absence or disability, the Assistant Director shall act in the place of the Deputy Director in all matters requiring action by the Deputy Director. The Assistant Director also serves as the Bureau’s representative to assigned committees and associations. The position exists to provide coordination, review, and daily management of operational activities associated with the investigation of complex criminal violations and to implement the policies and procedures of the Bureau. Goals and Strategic Plan Implementation Ensures the goals and objectives established within the Strategic Plan as they relate to the Investigation Section are met to include training and the production of statistical and investigative reports to develop specific goals and objectives for the Investigation staff with reference to quality and training. Facility and Resource Management Assists and makes recommendations on planning, managing and administering the functional operations of the CBI Denver, facilities and satellite offices. OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education and/or professional major crimes investigative experience with a law enforcement agency having a full time Investigations/Detective Unit equal to eleven (11) years, two (2) years of which must have been at the level of a staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent and one (1) year of which included direct supervision of an investigative/detective unit or level as a Colorado Bureau of Investigation Agent in Charge. Preferred Qualifications: + Completion of advanced law enforcement leadership training, including coursework from the FBI LEEDA Trilogy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, the FBI National Academy, and equivalents. + Experience in governmental budget responsibility, including State fiscal and procurement rules. + Experience in State legislative processes.
