Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties 4-H Think Differently Program serves youth who are on the autism spectrum with a lens of open inclusiveness to neurodivergent learners. 4-H is America’s largest youth development organization - empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. 4-H connects youth to hands-on learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, contributing members of society. The Think Differently Educator delivers 4-H youth-based programs at after school programs, community events, and by leading a 4-H youth group using techniques such as visual cues and social skills to engage youth. An Associate’s degree plus 2 years related experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. + Experience relevant to the role of the position. + Help ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs. + Ability to meet the regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver’s license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required. + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends. + Ability to effectively deliver assigned programs; meet program goals; and meet data collection and reporting requirements. + Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies. Preferred Qualifications + Experience working with youth on the autism spectrum. + Coursework in youth education, sciences, or related fields. + Spanish Speaking Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Program Responsibilities: Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research– 75% + Deliver existing 4-H based educational programs. Assist with other programs, events, and outreach as needed or assigned. May assist in teaching innovative educational programs. + Serve as subject matter resource; provide standard responses. + Participate as an active member of the 4-H team. + Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences. + Interact with program participants as part of program delivery. + Present as a positive role model for youth participants. + Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery. + Participate in and attend trainings related to building youth competencies, building youth assets, and others as they relate to science-based and healthy lifestyles education. + Utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies, including new virtual programming initiatives. + Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans as identified. + May assist in delivering innovative educational programs. + May assist in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver programs. + Implement program evaluation as designed. + Assist in making recommendations for improvements. Administrative Responsibilities: Direction and Management – 10% + Assist in planning and managing assigned programs. + Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program. + May assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures. Coordination and Operation – 10% + Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings. + Performs 4-H data (data entry, enrollments, reporting, etc.). + Recruit program participants. + Effectively collaborate with, develop, and maintain professional relationships with partner organizations and others. + May assist in the development of marketing or other materials. + Assist supervisor with public awareness by drafting impact statements, social media posts, web updates, articles for progress/ annual reports, or news releases. + Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner. + Maintain confidentiality of information regarding all program participants. Professional Improvement – 5% + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
