As a member of our team, you will be responsible for installations, repairs and maintenance of curbs, gutters, walkways, walls, drains and other cement installations at County parks and facilities. This position will perform skilled masonry work using bricks, blocks and related materials. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently or as part of a team. This position performs maintenance, repair, and construction at all facilities across Clark County which could include detention facilities, court facilities, family/youth/recreation facilities, rural locations, coroner’s office and morgue, and campus locations. This position could also be subject to shift work that includes nights, evenings, and weekends. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND four (4) years of full-time skilled experience in the cement finishing and masonry trade. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program is desirable. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES + Participates in the design, layout and installation of a variety of cement and masonry projects and installations; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications. + Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required. + Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job. + Performs skilled work in the installation and repair of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, walls, foundations, ramps, drains, catchments, pads and other installations; builds wood or metal forms to specifications. + Excavates, prepares and compacts sub-grades to the proper levels. + Mixes, pours or directs the placement of concrete; finishes surfaces as required, including placing appropriate texture or makings. + Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of brick, block, stone and related walkways, walls and structures; performs all required bedding, fitting and leveling. Installs reinforcement bars in concrete and masonry work. + Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects. + Maintains and services equipment and hand and power tools; keeps small inventory of frequently used supplies and parts. + Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. + May direct the work of less skilled assistants on specific projects; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed, particularly around energized circuits. + Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
