General Summary
Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in preparing and applying concrete for fabricating, covering, and reinforcing structures including buildings, bridges, highways, and dams.Essential Job Accountabilities
Oversees workers who place forms for molding concrete, install reinforcing steel, and convey, pour, finish, and cure concrete.
Reads specifications sheets for information, such as sizes of aggregates and proportions of cement and water required, to insure that concrete is mixed according to specifications.
Inspects bracing and shoring of concrete forms to insure their stability before and during pouring.
Indicates positions for pouring chutes and runways, cranes, or paving machines to facilitate conveying concrete from mixer to forms.
Trains new workers.

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
Physically, the worker must be capable of exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work and include significant walking or standing or pushing or pulling of arm or leg controls or working at a production rate.
Intellectually the worker must be able to apply and interpret principles of rational systems (bookkeeping, engines, electronics, building), to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; must be competent in beginning algebra and geometry and should be skilled in the computation of discount, interest, profit and loss; commission, markup, and selling price; ratio, proportion; and percentage; surfaces, volumes, weights, and measures. The worker must be able to read safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
