Job Description

General Summary

Under moderate supervision, the Central Services Technician is a multi-skilled individual who provides a wide variety of tasks/ procedures related to Instrument and Set processing for the Operating Rooms and the Hospital. They also provide support to the Clinical Units with limited supply management.

QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent preferred with some knowledge of medical terminology and supplies. Good communication skills and manual dexterity is required. Must pass pre-employment physical by Occupational Health Physician.

Working Conditions

Works inside a clean, well-lighted environment. May be exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Expected to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays as necessary. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. Possible exposure to toxic chemicals, gas fumes, and infectious material. Standing and walking most of the time on duty. Lifting over twenty-five (25) pounds of instrument trays, equipment and supplies. Pushing and pulling of carts. Reaching, handling and fingering of instruments and supplies. Talking and hearing to converse with Staff Members and requesting personnel. Hearing to differentiate sounds of various equipment alarms. Near visual acuity for accurate reading of tray lists, instrument inspection, pressure gauges, recording charts and graphs, package inspection and expiration dating labels, and color vision to detect signal lights, biological monitor color changes and instrument set coding. OSHA-3.
