Position Overview:
SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)Performs effectively as a student in an academy style classroom setting that includes both didactic training and hands-on experience within Central Sterile Processing services. Learns instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for all surgical procedures. Gains the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality instrument processing. Acquires knowledge regarding infection control techniques, manufacturers recommendations, AAMI, AORN, and DNV standards. Expectation for intern program completion is 6 weeks.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation: High school diploma or equivalency. Must pass the CRCXT Certification test upon completion of the 6-week intern program.
Experience: Two years of work experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCompletes ALL required assignments. This includes but is not limited to classwork, homework, and 6 weeks of on-line training through Medcerts. Adheres to all class guidelines and policies.Works well with others as part of a cohesive team. Maintains professional appearance and attitude. Proficiently performs all required skills.Learns to understand and follow departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the Central Sterile Processing Department.Learns to assist with pulling cases and checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before sending case cart to the Operating Room.Learns the various roles of the Central Sterile Processing Technician. Washing and scrubbing, chemical sterilization, ultrasonic cleaning, drying, sorting and packaging, sterilization and storage.Gathers knowledge regarding the proper way to operate all washers, sterilizers, sonics, and other equipment in the CSPD.Gains understanding of assembly of trays utilizing resources necessary to achieve 100% correct tray completion.Understands surgical case cards and picking surgical cases.Always communicates effectively and professionally especially in situations that need clarification.Understands the significant importance of sterilization and its impact on a highly reliable organization.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTFrequent physical demands include Walking, carry objects, Push/Pull, Twisting, Bending, reaching forward, reaching overhead, Squat/kneel/crawl, Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities
