Central Sterile Technician, Full Time
Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is looking for a Central Sterile (CS) Technician to join our Surgical Services Department! The Central Sterile Technician prepares, tracks and sterilizes equipment and instruments in an accurate and timely manner. The CS Tech prepares operating room case carts, sterile trays and supplies for all areas of the hospital. This role understands the importance of and follows through with proper cleaning of flexible endoscopes. Major Job Duties & Responsibilities Updates and implements procedures for determining and maintaining prearranged (PAR) levels of supplies and equipment in the designated areas. Maintains adequate amounts of supplies on hand and orders stores stock as needed. Stocks and maintains supplies in treatment areas and storage locations. Insures proper operation of sterilizer units prior to use on a daily basis. Determines sterilizer is functioning correctly by reading the paper printout created at the end of the sterilization cycle. Processes and redistributes all instruments, equipment and supplies returned to Central Sterile Supply. Ensures patient and staff safety by using proper techniques and equipment. Coordinates with the Bio-Medical Equipment Technicians to maintain scheduled preventative maintenance on hospital equipment. Gives complete and accurate report to licensed staff and Manager upon completion of tasks and duties with inclusion of abnormal findings. Operates autoclave according to manufacturer’s directions and departmental policy to achieve sterility of surgical and other packs. Performs sterilization validation tests as required for each sterilizer according to established policy, procedures and manufacturer’s recommendations. Cleans endoscopic equipment according to manufacturer’s instruction and departmental procedures. Evaluates instruments for proper function before sterilizing. Pulls instruments and/or equipment that are non-functional and replace with functional instruments. Restock working area with appropriate supplies i.e; drapes, sponges, towels, etc before the next working day. Log results of Attest as required. Responsible for occasionally assisting with scrubbing and retractor holding. Assist the RN with the surgical prep. Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities Possess excellent prioritization, organization and time management skills. Exhibit very good computer skills requiring order entry. Operates with sound verbal and written communication skills. Advocates for patients and families and exhibits professional and therapeutic customer service skills. Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment and instruments.Knowledge of organizing, containing, and transporting items of varying compounds, textures or quantities.Knowledge of transporting and disposing of hazardous materials and sharp objects according to hospital procedures. Knowledge of sterilization procedures of various equipment and instruments. Knowledge of wrapping and repackaging sterilized instruments. Skilled in using sterilization equipment and instruments. Skilled in arranging instruments on surgical trays. Skilled in following written instructions and performing multiple tasks. Schedule Hours are based on the needs of the department, these hours may be changed or modified by the reporting supervisor. May be called in to work off shift hours in emergency situations. Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification within one (1) year. BLS certification preferred, must obtain within 3 months of hire. Experience Six (6) months of Sterile Processing or Operating Room Technician experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience prefered, not required. Benefits Package Available.
