SUMMARY OF JOB Responsible for the identification and reporting of neoplasms, collection of clinical data, coding and entry of medical information into the Cancer Registry database, performance of life-time follow-up to provide cancer incidence, treatment, and outcome information for quality improvement activities. Coordinate registry quality control activities, information requests, quality improvement studies and research projects as requested. Serve as the liaison between the Commission on Cancer (CoC), the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Holy Redeemer Hospital Cancer Program, as needed. The CTR is responsible for assuming compliance with the CoC and NAPBC standards specific the Cancer Registry activities. The CTR serves as a coach and educational resource to other Cancer Registrar(s). Under the direction of the Lead CTR or Program Director, the Certified Cancer Registrar attends and participates in all cancer related committees and meetings, including Oncology Program meetings, Community Outreach, Tumor Board(s), Quality and Cancer Committee. The Certified Cancer Registrar will perform associated duties via the Electronic Medical Record. The Cancer Registrar performs duties in support of the Medical Center mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner. The Cancer Registrar must possess knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes and computer applications with the ability to follow detailed coding instructions under minimal supervision, as well as data coding, American College of Surgeon’s FORDS and PCR manual, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and Cancer Staging (AJCC, Collaborative and summary staging system). The CTR must have knowledge of basic statistical methods and previous use of computers with advanced level of experience with Excel, Access, Power Point and Microsoft Office with the proven ability to create spreadsheets with formulas, statistics, percentages and data mining experience. Excellent organizational skills with good follow through are a must, as are excellent investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with and support efforts of the team. Must be able to research and solve complex data quality problems, compile reports, and assist with special projects as required. RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS: A.S. in Health Information Technology or B.S. in Health Information Management. Minimum of 2 years experience in a Cancer Registry operations or highly-relevant clinical experience Advanced knowledge of computers preferred LICENSE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator preferred and Certified Tumor Registrar required.
