As a Certified Dental Assistant, you will:
Provide preventative dental health information and education, preventative dental services and perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties for the Dental Program.Set up instruments and dental supplies, pass instruments to the Dentist during treatments, provide assistance to the dental staff including dental specialists, residents and students in the clinic.Explain dental procedures, post-operative and oral hygiene instructions to the client and family.Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and ensure applicable equipment is functional. Education & Experience
Current registration and licensure as a Certified Dental Assistant with the BC College of Dental Surgeons (CDSBC)One (1) year recent, related community dentistry experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purpose, as required.Knowledge & Abilities
Knowledge of the current techniques and standards of preventive and restorative clinical practice.Ability to work within a team environment.Demonstrated ability to speak effectively to clients and families on dental care topics.Demonstrated ability to work with children.Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, work independently with minimal direction, problem solve, take initiative, anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions, organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with clients and other employees, deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, clients and staff from other agencies/community and maintain confidentiality.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Knowledge of office methods and procedures.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
