Tetra Tech CES has an immediate opening for a Certified Hydrographer-Professional Engineer (Ocean/Coastal/Civil)/Seller-Doer to join their established Marine Services team in the Pacific Northwest. This position will be based in either our Portland, OR or Bothell, WA offices but may be remote in the Pacific Northwest.  The role will be providing a full range of marine geophysical, hydrographic, geotechnical/environmental sediment surveys services for ports and harbors, offshore wind, UXO and subsea cable projects.

 

This is a strategic growth opportunity within Tetra Tech’s Marine Services Program. This individual will assist other practice leads establish the strategic direction and growth of Tetra Tech’s Marine Services practice.  Our ideal candidate will have the experience and proven track record of building teams, developing and managing clients, and winning work with the opportunity to develop and expand our team in Pacific Northwest and to support multiple locations across Tetra Tech.

 

Business Development:

·         Sustain and grow clients and key accounts with a focus in the Pacific Northwest and U.S. West.

·         Develop and expand Tetra Tech’s marine survey services through collaboration and an integrated services approach by partnering with other Leaders and other regional Leads across the US.

·         Build, grow, and develop a team of high performers within the Practice.

·         Participate in client marketing and business development activities which consists of proposal development, technical presentations, trade show attendance, client meetings and the development of marketing materials.

 

Essential Education, Experience and Responsibilities:  

The chosen individual must have experience that includes:

·         A BS/MS in Geology, Geophysics, Hydrography, Engineering or a related field and have a minimum of 15 years professional experience working as a Scientist or Engineer on marine and/or inland projects. 

·         Expertise performing hydrographic and geophysical surveys from planning to delivering data products.

·         In-depth knowledge and ability to setup, operate and troubleshoot surveying system hardware, computers, software, and cabling with HYPACK, HYSWEEP, QINSy, CARIS, and/or POSPac at competent to expert level.

·         Ability to Setup, operate Trimble static GNSS, R2Sonic (and other MBE) and RTK GPS and process and perform QC on the data at a competent to expert level.

·         Collect and process multibeam sonar (MBES) and single beam echosounder data.

·         Competency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Surfer, and/or ArcGIS is highly desired.

·         Perform field topographic, scientific or engineering surveys using GPS and/or Total Station.

·         Understand geodesy, survey and tidal datum, establish and recover survey control.

·         Develop and follow plans, specifications, SOPs, procedures and promote safe work practices.

·         Be self-motivated, hardworking, ethical, trustworthy and dependable.

·         Have strong analytical and communication skills and strong desire to learn and do new things.

·         Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

·         Physical ability to load/unload equipment (lifting 50 lbs.), walk safely over rugged terrain and up/down ships ladders is required.

·         Excellent client development and management skills

·         Team Leadership and ability to manage a multi-disciplined teams with members located at various geographic locations.

·         Ability to provide direction and management for consulting, survey and design activities.

·         Strong writing skills with work plans, reports, various resources agency reports, proposals and marketing documents.

·         Experience in successfully leading projects and programs to on-time, on-schedule and within budget.

·         Experience leading, motivating and managing various project and program teams, including internal and external resources, while holding team accountable for performance.

·         Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and presentation skills to convey technical information to clients and business and financial reports to management.

·         Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

·         Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines.

·         Strong desire and aptitude for client management and business development

·         Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks.

·         Willingness to travel with a focus on the U.S. West Coast, Pacific Northwest, and Alaska.

·         Must have a valid driver license and be able to pass the company DMV check to be a Tetra Tech-qualified driver of corporate/rental vehicles.

·         A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.

                                                                                                                                                                                                       

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSING:

·         OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, desired/not required.

·         STCW Safety training for at sea emergencies. (Fire, First-Aid, survival at seal), desired/not required.

·         First-Aid / CPR (First Responder), desired/not required.

·         The candidate will have Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), IHO CAT A or B and/or NSPS - THSOA Hydrographer Certification.

 

LOCATION:

Depending on the candidate, this position may be based out of Tetra Tech’s Bothell, WA or Portland, OR operations centers.  Remote locations, other than those listed above, will be considered.

         

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $150,000yr. - $185,000 yr.
