Job Summary:

The Instrument Specialist will oversee the instrument tray builds and maintenance including inventory of current stock and creation of new trays as needed. They will work directly with the manager, operating room (OR) manager, supervisor, and specialty lead to ensure that instrument needs of the surgical teams are met. The Instrument Specialist will provide support to manager for auditing and maintaining proper documentation for regulatory agencies including sterilization processes and staff education. The Specialist will act in accordance to sterility per the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), The Joint Commission (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and state standards of practice.

Essential Functions:

Operates computer programs designed to track instruments and equipment. Maintains all audits in instrument tracking database including instrument repairs, graphics, countsheets, assembly guidelines and manufacturer’s Instructions for use.  Maintains inventory of instrumentation; coordinates adding or deleting instruments and/or implants based upon case volume and usage. Completes order entry for items as needed. Identifies slow and non-moving instrumentation and coordinates the storage and distribution with operating room (OR) managers, supervisors, specialty leads, OR supply navigator and OR material coordinators. Coordinates onboarding of new instruments and supplies. Prepares and manages a system for outdates within the department.Gives immediate attention to obtaining unavailable and/or out of stock instrumentation or equipment by borrowing from area hospitals, contacting sales representatives, or rush ordering the same (or substitute) item from a secondary vendor. Collaborates with vendors on getting loaner equipment for upcoming surgeriesCollaborates with OR staff on the upcoming Surgery schedule.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

One of the following is required: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) (required)                                                                                                             Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (required)              Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) (preferred)

Experience:
