Job Overview:

The Certified Medical Assistant serves as an integral part of the Perioperative team and performs routine clinical tasks in order to help the nurses and physicians and other health practitioners deliver patient care efficiently. The duties of Certified Medical Assistant shall vary from time to time depending on the surgical specialty and volume of cases and the department assigned- PAT, SDS, PACU, and OR.

Qualifications:

Required:

Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant programBLS through the American Heart AssociationAbility to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flowExceptional customer service and phone etiquetteAbility to use Microsoft Office Suite and Internet knowledge, familiarity with office equipment

Preferred:

At least 1 year of medical practice assistance Phlebotomy certification

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Certification in Medical Assisting (CMA)

Scheduling Requirements:

Shift working, 6am-2:30pm (Rotating 2 days a week, then 3 days the following week)Monday-Friday Part-time

Essential Functions:

Maintain standard of care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and department Provide a supportive and caring environment for patients and address needs in conjunction with nursing teamGreet patients as needed in the main lobby and escort to same day surgeryPlace patients in their rooms and give instructions regarding prep for surgery or procedureEnsure fall prevention measures are in place at all timesAssist patients as needed with toileting, dressing and undressingAssist patients with pre-op surgical site infection prevention measuresTake vital signs and ensure results transfer to EpicDraw blood per physician orderPerform point of care pregnancy testingPerform point of care blood glucose testing, ensure glucometer is cleaned before and after each patient encounter, check strips for expiration before testingPerform Quality assurance on glucometer daily Assist patients with their belongings, placing them in secure lockers and retrieving them post procedureIf required, bring patients by stretcher to OR/Endo/PACU for proceduresAssist patients with post-operative eating and drinking as neededCare for post-operative patients whether it occurs in Same Day surgery or PACUProvide assistance for ambulation and into wheelchair as neededEscorts patient in wheelchair and family post procedure to lobby Stock rooms as neededCommunicate stock and supply needs with central supply, dietary and linenEnsure hallways are uncluttered with items at one side and move items on wheels to designated storage areas
