JOB SUMMARY The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will share in providing patient care in a clinical setting in accordance with the scope and practice guidelines set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Certified Medical Assistant Association (NCMA). Practice will be completed professional and be governed by the certifying body and the specific policies KIC maintains to ensure that all patient needs are met. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES + Welcomes and provides information to patients, visitors, and tribal members either in person or phone. + Assists and follows up with patients regarding the Dolly Jensen Fund eligibility information and approval process. + Addresses administrative function complaints by speaking with supervisor to resolve. + Sends reminder to patients to schedule preventive care appointment. + Completes reminder call one day prior to scheduled appointment. + Adheres to rescheduling appointment protocol. + Attends and participates in appropriate committee meetings to improve quality processes and maintain quality results. + Works with Clinic staff in preparation, participation, and closure of medical services daily. + Incumbent will prepare and gather information needed for patient visit. + Incumbent is responsible for rooming patients per clinic guidelines. + Completes appropriate aspects of patient care to include: vital signs, height, weight, and an eye exam if needed. + Setup and assist in procedures, while observing sterile technique. + Provide approved injections (vaccines and state-approved IM medications), ECG’s, pre-exam prep, assist provider during exam, and collects lab specimens. + Performs minor, noninvasive treatments to include: applying simple dressings, providing simple dressing changes, and suture removal after wound assessment by a provider. + Assist in moving and/or transporting patients as needed. + Answer patient questions or refer them to the proper source. + Clean exam rooms per protocol, observing standard precautions based on reported symptoms. + Provision of approved medications after completion of school with oversite by Registered Nurse. + Maintains a working inventory of medical supplies. + Performs daily stock of exam rooms and keeps supply storage area clean and organized. + Cleans dirty / used supplies and equipment. + Reports any unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor upon discovery. + Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience) + High school diploma or equivalent required. Possess a current American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Certified Medical Assistant Association (NCMA) Certification. + Two (2) years’ experience required. Medical Assistant experience with eligibility to sit for testing will be considered with the expected completion of certification within six (6) months of hire. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES + Knowledge of and ability to provide basic nursing procedures for a variety of patients; + Knowledge of universal precautions and safety measures in providing patient care; + Knowledge and skill in gathering, reporting, and recording patient information; + Knowledge of EMR and all associated care programs; + Knowledge and ability to carry out rules of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which protects patient rights; + Ability to manage simultaneously multiple tasks, including phone calls, computer operations, and in-person visitors; + Skilled in customer service and communication to ensure patients feel comfortable before, during, and after appointment(s); + Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally; + Ability to recognize, identify, and resolve problems and issues without direct supervision; + Ability to work independently; + Ability to be flexible in order to perform at the highest level as a team player; + Ability to take directions from supervisor and/or designee; + Ability to maintain confidentiality of all KIC operations and staff. Safety precautions for employees such as blood drawing for screening of various diseases such as hepatitis, required immunizations, etc. are necessary. The employee is occasionally subject to verbal abuse, threats, and physical violence from angry, hostile, or disgruntled patients and/or family members CONDITIONS OF HIRE + May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC’s company insurance. + KIC is a Drug-Free Workplace. All employees must adhere to KIC drug and alcohol policies and procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Employees must pass a pre-employment and subsequent random and/or for cause drug and alcohol screening to be eligible for and maintain employment. + KIC has several positions that must comply with the P.L. 101-630 Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Protection Act (ICPA); all employment offers in the "covered" classification are conditional until KIC has received a Federal criminal background check verifying eligibility to work in these programs.
