Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant Job Description As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for preparing patients for examination and treatment, maintaining medical supplies, and assisting providers with patient care. You will also handle administrative duties, manage patient flow, and ensure quality control in a pediatric office setting. Responsibilities + Prepare patients for examination and treatment; clean exam and treatment rooms before and after patient encounters; instruct patients in complex testing requirements and medical procedures. + Review electronic health records for immunizations, labs, and consults. + Monitor vital signs and track changes as necessary. + Recognize urgent patient problems and/or emergencies, and address the patient's situation with the MD and/or RN. + Organize and maintain medical supplies and equipment. + Assist providers with management of patient allergies, medications, and history. + Process lab referrals within electronic health records. + Answer phone calls and respond to patient requests for lab results, prescriptions, and immunization history; oversee the follow-up process for lab results and instructions per provider. + Perform vaccine inventory, storage, and handling; complete requests for school and medication forms. + Provide guidance to other staff members and make recommendations to the manager. + Serve as a resource for patient-related communications as defined by PCMH workflow. + Act as a communication liaison to other medical assistants and staff; ensure office policy and procedures are being followed. + Manage staff resources and assignments. + Train and mentor medical assistant staff. + Perform vaccine management, ensuring appropriate vaccine storage and monitoring processes are followed; act as an emergency resource for vaccine storage. + Monitor patient flow and make changes to improve productivity. + Maintain patient flow design according to PCMH and Meaningful Use workflow. + Demonstrate immunization protocol efficiency as required. + Recognize limitations and discuss any complications with the proper professional staff member. + Implement guidelines regarding HIPAA and OSHA regulations. + Participate and lead workflow process improvements related to MU and PCMH. + Remain knowledgeable of insurances, billing processes, patient care referrals, and financial impact. Essential Skills + NHA Medical Assistant Certification Required + Knowledge of vital signs monitoring + Vaccine knowledge to educate parents and pediatrics + Basic math calculations + Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures + Knowledge of medical equipment and medical terminology + Basic computer skills + Knowledge of insurance verification and patient flow monitoring + Good communication skills (written and oral) + Customer service skills + Ability to train and coach staff + Experience with electronic medical records Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in pediatric settings + Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations + Knowledge of PCMH and Meaningful Use workflow + Ability to work independently Work Environment This role is based in a pediatric office serving newborns to 18-year-olds, managing approximately 50 patients a day. You will work alongside 2 Medical Assistants and 2 providers. The office does not have a supervisor on-site, so the ability to work independently is essential. The environment is dynamic and may require sitting at the Laurel location due to its higher activity level, with providers guiding task feasibility.
