Job Description
This position is within a Gastroenterology outpatient clinic in Whiteland, Indiana. The team seeks someone eager to learn and grow within the organization. The patient volume ranges from 100-150 patients monthly, including walk-ins and scheduled appointments. The volume will vary due to the provider having a full surgery day and a half surgery day where he will be in the OR and not in Clinic. This role is still a full time role. The MA will still work in the clinic while the provider is in the OR.
ResponsibilitiesAssist provider by rooming patients, obtaining blood pressure, documenting signs/symptoms, taking weight and temperature, and completing medical history documentation.Set up and assist providers with various tasks and tests as directed by the provider.Schedule tests, exams, and appointments with specialists as requested. Enter all check-in/check-out information in the EMR. Perform prior authorizations as needed and notify the office referral specialist when an insurance referral is required. This role is working a lot with PAs specific to GI medications. Assist providers with office exams, collecting height, weight, BMI, and updating immunization records.Perform phone triage, including addressing patient medical questions, test results, medication refills, and call-backs. Handle faxes/calls/transmissions for prescription refills as directed.Perform walk-in patient duties such as triage, blood pressures, urinalyses, medication sample requests, and collecting patient history.Function as a resource to visitors, providers, and staff by greeting promptly and courteously, and communicating clearly.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator, practice site provider, and/or the VP of Physician Practices.Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.Essential SkillsActive CMA (AAMA), RMA, or CCMA certification required.Previous expereince working with Prior Authorizations in Gastroenterology or OncologySuccessful completion of and graduation from a recognized medical assistant training course (or equivalent experience required).High School Diploma (HSD).Upbeat, positive, and outgoing attitude.Ability to stand for long periods.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious expereince working with Prior Authorizations in Gastroenterology or OncologyExperience within Gastroenterology preferred but not requiredExperience with Cerner or other EMR systems.Work Environment
This role is onsite at the Gastroenterology outpatient clinic. The environment is temperature-controlled with easy access to parking. The team includes 1 provider,1 scheduler, 1 intake and outtake individual handling approximately 10-15 patients daily. The schedule is 8am-4:30pm, 30 minute lunch, Monday to Friday, with no weekend work and holidays off. There is minimal overtime required. Daily schedule: 8am-8:50am walk-ins (acute visits), 9am-11:30am appointments, 1-hour lunch, 1pm-4:00 pm appointments, and close up/finish appointments by 4:30pm.

The pay range for this position is $18.22 - $25.00
