Get to Know Your Team: Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200+ employees and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit. Responsibilities The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of quality patient services, office communication, and information storage and retrieval services to patients and staff by performing related reception and clerical duties. He/she will also assist physicians in providing primary health care and management of patient care. Assist with both front office and back office duties Greet patients, update demographics, verify insurance, and collect payments as necessary Answer phones and schedule patient appointments Assist physicians with patient treatment and minor surgeries Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain authorizations for procedures and pharmaceuticals Handle patients’ requests for medical information, copies of medical records, refills, test results, etc. as instructed by the physician with signature, obtain patient release forms in accordance with patient confidentiality and medical record release policies. Schedule testing (in or out of office) Call in patients’ prescriptions to pharmacies Maintain inventory of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, order and stock as needed Maintain patient files, records, and other information Notify patient of changes in medications/diet and reminders regarding appointments Notify the physician of any situation they determine emergent Perform routine medical testing, i.e. blood testing, EKGs, pulmonary function tests, spirometry tests, hearing, vision (including color blindness test), urinalysis, rapid strep tests and drug screening, injections and vaccinations Prepare lab request forms and tests to be forwarded to the lab Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Take the patient's brief history and vital signs Perform any and all other duties as assigned Qualifications Job Requirements: High school or GED. At least one (1) year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant certification through AMT, NHA, NCCT, or AAMA BLS Preferred Job Requirements: Previous medical assistant experience or background. Bilingual is a plus
