Job Overview:

RWJBH Orthopedics is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED Minimum 2 years Certified Medical Assistant experience in a busy multiple physician practice

Preferred:

Phlebotomy and EKGKnowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systemsExperience with Orthopedics, clinical skills, and terminology Bilingual Spanish

Certifications and Licenses Required:

BLS Certification approved by AHAMedical Assistant Certification: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, AECA, or NAHP

Scheduling Requirements:

Shift working, 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday - FridayFull-Time*Travel within Essex County, Hudson County, and Bergen County satellite offices for coverage (willing to travel regionally within 45 minutes of anchor location)

Essential Functions:

Performs clinical tasks such as EKGs, hearing and vision screens, urinalysis, injections, vaccinations, and medication administration, treatments and minor surgeries as neededSupports practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests, and other clerical tasks as assignedCommunicates with insurance providers and handles pre-authorizations and certifications as necessaryPrepares rooms, arranges instruments and equipment, and ensures a neat and sanitary environmentRooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical historyCommunicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitionerCreates and maintains health record information, files and organizes, as neededOther duties as assigned
