Position Summary
Performs routine clinical and administrative duties in support of assigned area or office.
Reports to: Department Manager
Responsibilities of the Position
Under the supervision of physician or nurse, assists with performing patient assessments and treatments.
Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection. Monitors and communicates changes in-patient condition. Documents patient care given.
Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
Maintains examination areas.
Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.
Escort patients to exam rooms; take histories and vital signs; prepare patients for examination.
Assist providers in examination and treatment of patients, minor surgeries, and physicals.
Utilize electronic medical software to record patient information in compliance with HIPAA/confidentiality guidelines.
Dispense medication as directed by providers.
Collect and process lab specimens.
Perform glucose monitoring.
Communicate with patient, pharmacy, and physician inquiries within the scope of practice; involve provider as needed.
Perform accurate and timely input of data into EMR.
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of training as a medical assistant.
Certifications/Licenses
Current and valid Medical Assistant registration/certification is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association is required upon hire.
Required Skills
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
