Description:

Trinity Health Grand Rapids is looking for a patient-focused, certified medical dosimetrist to join a team of 3 other medical dosimetrists, as well as 3 radiation oncologists and 3 medical physicists. The department supports a diverse set of technologies, including Eclipse, Precision and MIM treatment planning systems, as well as a a diverse set of treatment delivery machines including Truebeam, Tomotherapy and Cyberknife units.

The certified medical dosimetrist will work under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist to generate treatment plans and perform dose calculations based on the physician's prescription per patient. The dosimetrists collaborate regularly with the physicians, medical physicists, as well as radiation therapists to ensure safe and effective treatment plans are created while accounting for safety of nearby structures and previously treated areas of interest. This colleague troubleshoots difficulties in providing adequate dose coverage to certain targets with both the medical physics team as well as the attending physician. The medical dosimetrist is additionally available to support therapists during CT simulation as needs arise and aid in treatment position brainstorming with a collaborative and open-minded approach. 

What the Certified Medical Dosimetrist will need:

Education Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience in a medical dosimetry position.Minimum Current certification or eligible for certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Certification or re-certification in Cardio -Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire, as well as maintain ongoing recertification.Minimum: One year of dosimetry experience. Basic math skills, able to read and understand English, ability to work with others, ability to develop independent thinking and judgment when making decisions. Aptitude for geometry.

What the Certified Medical Dosimetrist will do:

Prepares computerized therapeutic radiation treatment plans under direction of a radiation oncologist.Calculates treatment times, field arrangement, and dose distribution for different therapeutic radiation machines. Performs weekly dosimetry checks and maintains accurate documentation in the patient’s treatment chart.Assists in simulation for tumor localization, immobilization device production or other patient preparation tasks as needed.Assists as needed in the set-up of complex patient positioning during treatment.,.Works closely with and under the direction of a medical physicists.Performs other related duties as assigned.
