Responsibilities
Job Summary:
Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging at a technical level. Performs a variety of technical procedures, which require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Will also perform CT and radiologic procedures at a technical level. Assumes responsibility for the safe and proper operation of all imaging department equipment.
Essential Functions:
Performs MRI/CT imaging procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.Always identifies self to patient and verifies patient identity using approved patient identifiers.Completes and signs Patient Screening form and explains the procedure to patient.Maintains patient care, comfort and safety during the exam process.Maintains technical competency through continued education and participation in company sponsored training programs.Applies knowledge and safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety for High strength magnetic field use; and for radiation protection to achieve radiation exposures ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) for patients and self and others.Applies knowledge and principles of Universal Precautions, aseptic and sterile techniques to minimize exposure to/spread of infections. Under guidance and approval of the radiologist, administers contrast agents according to site protocols.Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures.Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems. Calls for service and notifies Supervisor/Manager.Maintains manual and computerized patient and department records, respecting confidentiality. Initiates computer archive functions to store or retrieve patient information. Performs associated clerical tasks as needed.Follows quality assurance guidelines and maintains patient confidentially.Complies with all safety policies and regulations.Maintains current State and National licenses.Operates tele-radiography system for emergency interpretation.May perform routine radiographic procedures as workload permits.Contributes to positive team spirit and effective teamwork for department and or hospital.Performs additional duties as assigned.Demonstrates Competence And Proficiency when performing diagnostic imaging procedures.Addition to MRI, performs radiologic exams as needed.Delivers diagnostic Imaging in an effective and efficient manner.Identifies self to the patient and verifies patient identity and physicians’ order for requested exam.Thoughly explains procedure to patient, while allowing the opportunity for questions concerning the procedure.Performs exams following protocols established by the radiologist.Completes assigned exam including, room set up, complete documentation, cleaning room and closing the exam in the pacs system.Effectively prioritizing exams and workloads.Delivers Patient Care For All Age GroupExplain the examination to the patient, obtains informed consent and screening paper as applicable.Provide the physician with pertinent patient information.Questions female patients in the childbearing years as to the possibility of pregnancy. Use appropriate gonad shielding on all patients of childbearing age.Maintains patient confidentialityPatient Safety and ComfortOffers sponges, blankets, pillows, etc. to the patient for comfort.Always protects the patient, self and others from unnecessary radiation.Be prepared to respond to emergency patient situations.Informs the nursing staff of any significant changes in the patient condition while in the patient is in the Imaging Department.Performs General Office DutiesAssures the Diagnostic Imaging patients appropriate information is recorded in the appropriate places, such as; Daily Log Book, hospital computer system, Exam Request, and the Film Filing Jacket, as a result patient records are accurate. Always assures the proper exam and supplies are billed for the patient at the completion of the examination and no less than at the end of their shift. Answers a phone if needed. Performs the function of the receptionist at the desk when needed.Actively Participates In The Training Of The X-Ray Student and New StaffTakes an active interest in the training of the x-ray student and new staff when assigned to their work area.Assists the student/new staff who is having difficulty performing an exam.Offers instruction, such as film critiques, techniques, positioning skills.Uses Universal Precautions Including Personal Protective Equipment For Anticipated Contact With Blood Or Other Potentially Infectious Materials. Adheres To Diagnostic Imaging's Policy And Procedures, Safety And Risk Management.Consistently demonstrates awareness of risk sensitive issues and reports them appropriately.Always demonstrates awareness of and applies safety standards to include but not limited to:Fire PlanDisaster PlanHazardous Material ProtocolBack SafetyInfection controlAlways reports defective equipment and safety hazards so that patient and staff safety is maintained.Always adheres to those policies and procedures that are inherent to Diagnostic Imaging.Demonstrates competency in adjusting the delivery of care and/or clinical techniques as appropriate to address the age specific needs of the patient.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area(s).Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and adjusts radiologic techniques as applicable.Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiological TechnologyCurrent AART licenseSuccessful employment as a MRI tech for one (1) yearRequired Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Requires advanced technical, scientific and professional knowledge, as well as a high degree of familiarity and skill with radiologic and special imaging procedures and related equipment.Must be computer literate. Must have good interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively instruct patients and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers. Must possess good written and oral English communication skills. Must have ability and willingness to coordinate the activities of and assist other staff members.Must have knowledge and experience in the current technical aspects of the patient care in the MRI Department.Preferred Qualifications:
