POSITION PURPOSE Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs tasks for patients’ Activities of Daily Living to promote comfort and safety, assists Registered Nurse with the collection of patient data and performs selected procedures. Complies with established standards and procedures. Acts as a receptionist and performs general clerical duties in assigned area. Prepares, updates and maintains patient charts. Maintains needed supplies. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED High School or Equivalent (GED) MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Entry Level LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Certification as a Nursing Assistant. Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED Proficiency in use of personal computers. Medical terminology knowledge. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Serves as a resource for physicians, staff, patients and visitors regarding hospital activities and policies.
• Knowledge of how to locate, enter or correct orders or other information in the electronic health record.
• Demonstrates competency with specific clinical skills and techniques that are listed in the department/unit skills list.
• Performs tasks for patients’ Activities of Daily Living (ADL) to promote patient comfort and safety.
• Assists the Registered Nurse with collection of patient data such as but not limited to the following examples: Vital Signs, Patient weights, Intake & Output, Blood glucose/ urine multi-stix and Pulse Oximetry.
• Promptly and courteously responds to any patient call light.
• Consistently conducts regular rounds and observes patient activity.
• Performs routine patient treatment/procedures.
• Documents patient care tasks performed and communicates effectively to RN on delegated tasks, such as but not limited to: patient data collection, treatments and procedures, and ADL’s.
• Promptly and clearly observes and communicates to the Registered Nurse changes in the patient’s condition.
• Patient rooms and department work areas are organized and maintained in a neat, clean and well-supplied manner.
• Assists the patients by orienting them to the hospital routine in a sincere and helpful manner.
• Recognizes the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and takes the appropriate actions in a timely manner.
