Certified Nursing Assistant/Scope Washer Gi Lab
POSITION PURPOSE Performs nursing assistant duties, decontaminates and disinfects scopes, cleans rooms, facilitates turnovers, checks outdates and maintains adequate supplies for the delivery of medical care to patients undergoing procedures in the GI Lab. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED High School or Equivalent (GED) MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Entry Level Nursing assistant LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Nursing Assistant Certification for employees hired after December 1, 2019. Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Red Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to perform, work with equipment and machines according to manufacturers instructions for using and regulatory bodies Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language Ability to follow documented procedures and written and oral instructions with accuracy Ability to assemble items. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination skills for working with small items PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Performs the decontamination of contaminated patients care equipment and procedural instrumentation. Performs and documents quality assurance monitoring of the department decontamination and sterilization process.   Performs soiled collection of reusable medical and surgical equipment. Maintains supplies and inventories utilized in high-level disinfection.  Checks and replaces outdated supplies.  Assists in the staff development and training of newly hired Scope Washers.  Performs tasks for patients’ Activities of Daily Living (ADL) to promote patient comfort and safety.  Assists the RN with collection of patient data such as but not limited to the following examples: Vital Signs, Patient weights, Intake & Output, Blood glucose/ urine multi-stix and Pulse Oximetry.  Promptly and courteously responds to any patient call light.  Consistently conducts regular rounds and observes patient activity.   Performs routine patient treatment/procedures.  Documents patient care tasks performed and communicates effectively to RN on delegated tasks, such as but not limited to: patient data collection, treatments and procedures, and ADL’s. Promptly and clearly observes and communicates to the RN changes in the patient’s condition.  Patient rooms and department work areas are organized and maintained in a neat, clean and well-supplied manner. Assists the patients by orienting them to the hospital routine in a sincere and helpful manner. Recognizes the occurrence of life-threatening situations and emergencies and takes the appropriate actions in a timely manner.
