Basic Job Function Summary COTA

Provides occupational therapy services to the agency’s clients under the guidance and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, and in accordance with a written plan of treatment established by a physician, and any applicable state/certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as an occupational therapist assistant, if applicable, in the state of practice.Graduation from a two-year college-level program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or two years of appropriate experience as a physical therapist assistant and achievement of a satisfactory grade on proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public Health ServiceMinimum of six months experience under a qualified occupational therapistHome healthcare experience preferred.Must accept responsibility for maintaining clinical practice skills learning and adhering to agency’s policies and procedures on an on-going basis.Must be able to function in a practice environment with minimal direct supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the agency’s clients and their families.Must have current Driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work site.Ability to consistently demonstrate the Organizational Core Competencies and Organizational Code of Ethics and adhere to the Compliance Program.

Essential Functions

Effectively and efficiently prioritizes visit content and plans visits based on client capabilities, condition, preferences (when possible), physician orders and available resources.Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal. State and local laws and regulations, the Organizational Integrity Program, Code of Ethics, as well as agency policies and procedures and adheres in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.Provides occupational therapy services to clients according to a physician’s written plan of treatment.Implements the care plans for clients developed by the supervising occupational therapist.Provides direct occupational therapy treatment to clients as assigned.Instructs clients and family members in the use and care of therapeutic appliances and devices, such as ADL assistive devices, braces, etc.
