Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
Overview Provides quality health care services to patients under the direction and responsibility of a Physician by performing the following duties in a compassionate, cost-effective manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Rooms and collects patient assessment data. Documents patient history, vitals, glasses and contact lens information. Assists physicians during treatment, testing and examinations. Maintains timely flow of patients. Performs- VA, Pinhole, Color, Stereo, Tear test, Glare testing, Amsler Grid, Confrontation fields, Automated perimetry, Applanation using-Tonopen, I-Care, or Goldman tonometers, Pachymetry, Auto keratometry/Auto Refractometry, Auto Lensometry, Manifest Refractometry, Basic slit lamp including, assessment of anterior angles, pupils check , Fundus and External photography, OCT, corneal/disc topography, scribes, assists in minor office surgery and lasers, Administers medications and performs other patient care procedures such as Biometry/A-Scan as directed and according to established criteria. Provides patient and family education. Follows up on patient care as needed. Performs telephone triaging of patients. Responds to incoming telephone calls, In basket messages, and My Chart messages, maintains accurate charting. Education and Experience High School diploma. Prefer education as a paraprofessional in ophthalmology or optometry. Certification and Licensure Certified by JCAHPO as Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days Skills and Abilities Good interpersonal/communicative skills needed Special Physical Demands The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Level of Supervision Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but partner must make minor decisions using independent judgment required in order to adapt to routine situations.
