Works under the direction of the practice manager in assisting the ophthalmologist and clinical staff in the practice center performing a variety of tasks and the procedures necessary in determining patients diagnosis and treatment. Under supervision, demonstrates technical expertise and clinical judgement by applying problem solving techniques, integrating advanced skills and knowledge base into clinical practice. Is knowledgeable about and supports the philosophy, policies and general standards of practice at Bridgeport Hospital EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. Responsible for accurately preparing patients past medical history with knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Possesses sufficient knowledge base regarding systemic disease and its effect on the visual apparatus to obtain an accurate history. Applies accurate technical intervention as needed by each individual patient. 2. Maintains and supports patient flow through consistent communication with providers, staff and patient/families 3. Accurately obtains and records visual acuity and perform lensometry 4. Maintain environment and supplies 5. Maintain ongoing professional development through continued COT certification with requirements within JCAHPO, including participation in ongoing educational opportunities with in the department, state, and national organizations Qualifications EDUCATION High School diploma or equivalent, successful completion of JCAHPO approved program for ophthalmoloc assistance/technicians EXPERIENCE At least one year as an ophthalmic assistant or tech. LICENSURE Certified as an ophthalmic technician, and maintains certification requirements every 3 years SPECIAL SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, providers and members of the healthcare team. PHYSICAL DEMAND Ability to perform tasks identified in the job description requires use of body mechanics, physicial endurance and dexterity Additional Information HOURS: Per diem/As Needed YNHHS Requisition ID 122060
