Certified Pathology Assistant

We are seeking a full time Certified Pathologist Assistant to join the LabCorp team where we are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical laboratory services.  Come work in our Pathology laboratory located in Knoxville, TN alongside a highly trained staff with the latest technology.  Our services are performed with the utmost care, expertise, integrity and respect for the patient.  In this position, you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment, and will be a part of our overall mission at LabCorp: "Improving Health, Improving Lives".

Schedule: 2nd shift; Monday - Friday (12:30p - 9p) & rotating eve​ry 3rd Saturday (8a until all grossing can be​ comple​te​d, typically 4-5 hours, with following Monday off)

Job Responsibilities:

Perform complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies following departmental guidelinesFollow the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processingAdhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and proceduresAssist other areas rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completedEnsure a professional environment is maintainedIdentify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and work to correct or report the problemMaintain high ethical standards and integrity in performing the assigned dutiesKnowledge of hazardous waste managementKnowledge of personal protection measures and blood borne pathogensExperience cutting frozen sections is desiredPossible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Biological, Chemical or a related life scienceCompletion of a NAACLS accredited PA program is requiredMust be ASCP Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology OR eligiblePrevious experience grossing small biopsies and complex surgical cases is a plusNo experience required with the completion of a NAACLS accredited PA programExperience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment is preferredProficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plusKnowledge of quality control and quality assurance processesStrong communication skills; both written and verbalHigh level of attention detail along with strong organizational skillsKnowledge of hazardous waste management and personal protection measuresAbility to handle the physical requirements of the position Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screenFlexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
