OverviewThe Certified Peer Specialist, works as part of the Intensive Residential Treatment Service team, which provides care and treatment for persons who are experiencing significant mental health/psychiatric symptoms, who are demonstrating significant functional impairments, and who may have co-occurring substance use disorders. Certified Peer Support Specialists are fully integrated team members who provide individualized and group services in the residence and the community and promote person served self-determination and decision making. Certified Peer Support Specialists also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each person’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
Responsibilities Willingness to provide peer-recovery educationAssist peers with assessing their unique strengths and abilitiesHelp peers with identifying, developing, and working towards recovery goalsAssist peers with developing self-advocacy skillsHelp peers identify and access appropriate professional resourcesProvide education for team members regarding the recovery processAssist in implementing and the development of individual treatment plansParticipates in care coordination meetings as neededServes as a link to community resources, teaches and models client self-advocacy and acts as a community liaison/educatorReports significant/major incidents or accidentsMedication administration and documentation Adheres to data privacy practices/HIPAAAssists in discharge planning Demonstrates professional competency in the documentation of treatment servicesProvides objective verbal and written critical incident analysis.Documents essential activities related to licensure, welfare, and safetyOther duties as assigned Qualifications A GED or high school diploma is requiredAssociate of Arts degree in one of the Behavioral Sciences or Human Services preferredSuccessful completion of the MN Department of Human Services approved Certified Peer Support Specialist training and certification examHave or had a primary diagnosis of mental illnessBe a current or former consumer of mental health services and/or experience in the field while maintaining professional boundariesDemonstrate dedication to promoting recovery opportunities in the lives of peersDemonstrate ability to utilize own lived experience of recovery to inspire recovery in the lives of peers Ability to communicate (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the agencyExcellent customer service skillsMust be able to work independently as well as part of a teamAbility to prioritize, meet deadlines and multitaskProficiency with using company technologyMust meet all agency requirements for pre-employment as required by SpringPath and/or MN State regulations About our Line of Business SpringPath Mental Health Services is a leading agency in providing recovery-oriented and psychiatric rehabilitation services.
