DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION A Certified Surgical Technologist is a paraprofessional qualified by didactic and clinical training to provide services in the Operating Room under the supervision and responsibility of the Operating Room Director and RN circulating nurse or her/his designees. As part of the Operating Room Team, he/she is responsible for the technical aspects of the patient’s surgical intervention. The Certified Surgical Technologist and Circulating Nurse work as a team as a surgical advocate. The CST may function in a first assist role with appropriate education, certification, and privilege. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Experience: + Knowledge and application of surgical aseptic techniques required + Familiarity with basic surgical procedures, instruments, equipment, physiology, microbiology, anatomy, and psychological processes required + Recent experience in Operating Room technology required Education and Training: + + + Graduate of a CAAHEP Accredited Surgical Technologist Program License, Certification & Registration: + + + Certified in Basic Life Support required + CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required + ACLS Provider certification by AHA is preferred Other Requirements: + + + Rotation on-call system participation is required. + May be required to rotate to weekends as needed. + Must be willing to cross-train to Crane Center & Sterile Processing Berkshire Health Systems offers one of the most comprehensive Benefit Plans!
