Sign on bonus paid after 6 months of employment at Gundersen Health System. Job Description:

Assists physician as scrub person according to prescribed standards. Assist RN in performing circulating duties as directed. Functions under direct supervision of a circulating nurse and physician. Display understanding of anatomy and physiology, the pathological condition affecting the patient, the planned operative procedure and consider any variations that may be necessary to meet the needs of a specific patient. Patient population to include neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric. Good interpersonal and analytical skills. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time when performing technical tasks and anticipating surgeon's needs.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Performs primarily in the scrub role preparing, selecting maintaining equipment, instruments, and supplies.

2. Assists, utilizes knowledge, and anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical team by passing instrumentation, equipment and supplies accurately and quickly.
3. Assists in turnover and terminal cleaning of OR suites. Makes necessary preparations for subsequent procedures, including restocking and coordinating materials required for use on upcoming procedures.
4. Possesses knowledge in the application of sterile and aseptic technique.

5. Prepares patient for surgery, including washing and disinfecting incision sites and applying sterile drapes on the patient.

6. Operates clinical laser accurately and safely.

7. Will float to a variety of surgical specialties, as necessary, to provide care to surgical patients.
8. Demonstrates effective organization skills with an ability to prioritize responsibilities efficiently in a rapidly changing work environment.
9. Participates in and supports education of newly employed Surgical Technologists, students, assistants and nursing colleagues learning to scrub.

10. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
11. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
12. Ensures patient safety.

13. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested to facilitate the smooth operation of department.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED

Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program. 

If graduated from a surgical tech program that was not accredited, at least one year of surgical tech experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

Work Experience:
REQUIRED

DESIRED
1-year surgical technologist experience

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within 2 years of hire date
