Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting surgeons during operations and ensuring that all surgical instruments and supplies are properly managed. This role requires precision, anticipation, and the ability to work closely with a team in a fast-paced environment.

ResponsibilitiesPerform first scrub role, directly assisting the surgeon by passing sterile instruments and supplies at the sterile field.Predict and anticipate surgeon's requests based on knowledge of the case.Distinguish between core and specialty cases in each service.Recognize the duties associated with the second scrub role, including holding retractors, sponging or suctioning operative site, and applying electrocautery as directed by the surgeon.Collaborate with circulating RN to correctly account for countable items at the sterile field according to policy and procedures.Assist RN in gathering appropriate supplies for cases.Mix, label, and administer all drugs and solutions dispensed to the sterile field.Assure and maintain supply of fluids, solutions, and drugs.Identify specific care needs as related to the patient's age group.Assist with preparation, maintenance, and after-care of supplies, equipment, and facilities within the OR.Place equipment and supplies in the operating room and arrange instruments according to instructions.Wash and sterilize equipment when necessary following manufacturer's recommended instructions.Assist team members to place and position patients on the Operating Room table.Scrub arms and hands appropriately and don gown and gloves.Aid OR team members with gowning and gloving.Apply dressings post-surgery.Must be able to take call independently within 12 months of hire.Essential SkillsCertified Surgical Technologist,Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist ProgramCurrent certification as Certified Surgical Technologist (or certification acquired within 6 months of hire date) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical AssistantsCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required upon hire and maintainedKnowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterilization techniquesAdditional Skills & QualificationsCommitment to lifelong learning and professional development by obtaining 15 continuing education equivalents per yearDemonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients, families, and coworkersSupport the mission, values, and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with its standardsNew graduates eligible for bonusTechnologists with 1+ years of experience eligible for bonusWork Environment

This position is based in a 187-bed not-for-profit children's hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. The work schedule is from 7 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday to Friday with rotating days and on-call requirements, totaling 40 hours per week. One opening is for 36 hours per week. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and focused on delivering high-quality patient care.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $83500.00 - $120900.00/yr.
