POSITION SUMMARY
The certified surgical first assist under the direct supervision of the Supervisor and the surgeon is responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing surgical intervention based on the standards of CSA. The Surgical First Assist is responsible for patient positioning, holding retraction for exposure, tying sutures, assisting dressing application and closing the skin. Additional responsibilities include setting up the operating room with the necessary equipment prior to the procedure start time, maintaining sterile technique, assist in set up and room turnover as well as restocking supplies used in surgery. Must work closely with the charge nurse for assignments, act as a resource person for procedures, and maintain certification as a surgical assistant.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. High School diploma Graduate of an Accredited school of Surgical Technology.
2. Graduate of Accredited school of Surgical Assistant.
3. Surgical Assistants with more than two years of SFA experience, and not currently certified, must receive their certification within six (6) months of hire date.
4. New Graduate from a Certified Surgical First Assist school must receive their certification within one year.
5. Previous clinical experience (preferred) BCLS certification
