Department/Program Description: Since its founding in 1980, the Stanford Humanities Center (The Center) has been sponsoring advanced research into the historical, philosophical, literary, artistic, and cultural dimensions of the human experience. It is an independent research center reporting to the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences. The Center's annual fellows, international visitors, research workshops, and annual public events strengthen the intellectual and creative life of the university and foster innovative and interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching. The internationally renowned Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA), recently restructured to become part of the Humanities Center, embraces emerging digital methodologies and tools to complement existing traditional research methods of analysis and interpretation. CESTA’s interdisciplinary research projects explore places, global spaces, texts, textual artefacts, data visualization, digital curation, preservation and display, linked data and interoperability, and sustainability. As a scholarly community, CESTA supports and encourages cutting-edge work across the humanities and the interpretative social sciences. Through its major research projects, fellowship and assistantship programs, seminars, workshops and informal initiatives, CESTA is dedicated to nurturing, training and professionalizing scholars of the future from a variety of disciplines, who will learn how to ask and answer data-driven questions focused on cultural, environmental, historical, social, and textual issues. Together, the Stanford Humanities Center and CESTA serve as the hub for an international network of fellows, visiting scholars, students, and alumni. Position Summary: The Stanford Humanities Center (SHC) is seeking to hire an experienced and highly motivated CESTA Programs & Center Manager who will be a member of the SHC staff reporting to the Associate Director and who will work under the general supervision of the CESTA Faculty Director. The CESTA Programs & Center Manager will manage administrative and operations-related functions to achieve the research and program objectives of CESTA. This is a two (2) year, fixed-term, benefits-eligible position that begins on the start date and may be renewable in the future based on programmatic need and funding availability. The ideal candidate will be a creative, motivated individual with experience in higher education administration, capable of administering a wide array of research projects and programs. Strong planning and execution skills are critical for this position, coupled with excellent communications skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. This position supports CESTA’s Faculty Director in managing the Center’s research agenda across multiple labs and projects. CESTA Programs & Center Manager will lead graduate student digital humanities research programs, and supervise the recruitment, coordination and supervision of undergraduate researchers. The CESTA Programs & Center Manager will design a process for the review and intake of research projects for program advancement, grant funding, and to identify opportunities among projects to foster collaboration. In coordination with the Center’s Communications Manager, the manager will develop and disseminate content for communicating CESTA activities, programs, events, and research results to scholarly and public audiences using various media ranging from websites to newsletters and social media. This is a 100% FTE, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need. CORE DUTIES INCLUDE: o Implement and manage research programs by supporting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders, assigning resources in coordination with the Finance Manager and making program improvement recommendations in coordination with the Associate Director that impact policies and programs. o Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research. o Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function. o Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, and other program activities. o Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability. o May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients. o Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding. o Coach and mentor program staff. * Other duties may also be assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: · Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans. · MA in a humanities discipline is strongly preferred and 3+ years of relevant experience in higher education; digital/digital humanities research skills. WORKING CONDITIONS: · Constantly performs desk-based computer tasks. · Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation. Occasionally use a telephone. · Rarely, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds. The expected pay range for this position is $99,015.00 to $126,383.00 per annum.
